Parent Involvement Policy
The North Providence School Committee has adopted a Parent Involvement Policy to ensure that all N P Families have current information regarding their child’s educational program. In addition, a Parent Engagement Action Plan was developed to implement the adopted School Committee Policy. Please review the attached documents and forward any questions you may have to your child’s school Principal.
Preschool Program
Our preschool program is 2.5 hours a day (morning or afternoon), 5 days a week following the school calendar. Child must be age 3, 4, or 5, and be toilet-trained. Families are responsible for transportation to and from school. There is a yearly tuition fee. Classrooms are at Greystone and Centredale schools.
We do not have open enrollment for preschool. The enrollment lottery is held in April. In order to apply for the lottery or the waiting list, applicants must have passed the Child Outreach Screening since last September 2.
The first step in the enrollment process is a Child Outreach Screen. Child Outreach is a free service sponsored by the Rhode Island Department of Education and offered through the North Providence School Department. Child Outreach is a screening program designed for all children between the ages of three and five. Families receive information about their child’s development after participating in the program. The information is gathered in two ways. First, your child will participate in a brief screening program conducted by trained personnel. Screening takes about 45 minutes to complete. It is a series of game-like activities that check your child’s vision, hearing, general development, and speech and language development. Second, families complete two questionnaires about their child’s development in everyday activities (Family Questionnaire and Ages & Stages Questionnaire: Social-Emotional).
To schedule a screening appointment please call 401-349-4732 or email preschool@npsd.k12.ri.us
