Social Studies/History Department
Around the world in 180 days. That’s what we’re able to accomplish at North Providence High School in an academic year, where our students learn far more than dates on a timeline and study for history tests. All students become part of a cultural experience at NPHS, where our faculty members make history come alive and help students learn the importance of understanding context, appropriation, and lessons learned through world events. Our students learn to appreciate Social Studies for what it is – the study of people, their experiences, and how cultures shape their lives. Our students learn about perspective in our Social Studies/History Department classes – which allows them to better understand their own peers, classmates, and surrounding community, and have a greater appreciation for multiculturalism across the globe.
