Good Evening North Providence families and staff,

Within the last few minutes, I was informed that one of our staff members  at Stephen Olney  Elementary School tested positive for the coronavirus today, 3/28/2020.  In my promise to keep our educational stakeholders updated with the most recent information, I wanted to send this message out to all of you. Because of federal HIPPA privacy laws I cannot disclose any further information about the staff member.

The staff member informed us of the positive status instantly today upon finding out.  An important fact is that the staff member has not been in the school building, has not been in contact with any students, and has not been in contact with any other staff members for the past fifteen days. Upon learning this information, we immediately notified the Rhode Island Department of Health.

As we learn new things about coronavirus everyday,  I ask that you continue to review the published guidance of the RIDOH as well as CDC guidance on appropriate protocols including social distancing, sanitizing and staying at home. For more information on such guidance please consult the RIDOH and CDC at these links: https://health.ri.gov/diseases/ncov2019/  and https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html   You may also call the RIDOH hotline at 1-401-222-8022.

The Department of Health will be working closely with us on this situation.   If necessary and appropriate, I will share any pertinent information with the North Providence School Community.  However, if there are specific instructions or information for SOS, I will keep that information distribution exclusively to the SOS community to avoid confusion. We intend to continue to deep clean and sanitize SOS, and all of our schools.

Thank you for your understanding and support as we move day by day through this new environment.

Have a good night.

Joseph B. Goho

Superintendent
